Following some positive discussions with our race partners, we are pleased to announce that we are able to revise the time limit milestone for Sunday’s race.
Runners will now have 50 minutes (from the start gun) to reach the 4.25km mark, rather than the 4.5km mark originally communicated in the race-rules.
This news should go some way to reassure first-time runners who may have been anxious about making the cut-off point.
A digital clock will display the gun time at the 4.25km mark, which falls outside the Coral betting shop on Geoffrey Watling Way by Norwich City Football Club.
Runners who fail to pass this mark in the allotted time limit, will be directed to retire from the race due to obligations to reopen Carrow Road for the annual East Coast Truckers event.
A back pacemaker will set off when the last runner crosses the start line and will move at the required average pace to reach the milestone just inside the time limit.
“Some first-time runners have expressed concerns about reaching the milestone and this news should only serve to reassure them further,” says race director Granville Courtnell.
“We are fairly optimistic – barring injuries – that we won’t need to direct any runners to retire, as to reach the milestone with 30 seconds to spare, runners would only need to travel at an average of 3.2 mph – which is pretty much walking pace.”
Item 4 of the Race Rules has been updated to reflect the change.
Please note: this change will not be reflected in the rules printed in the Runner’s Pack magazine, which will be in your race pack. For the latest race rules, please click here.
