An exceptional year for Norwich’s much-loved city run

More than 8,000 runners took to the streets of Norwich this morning for a record-breaking Run Norwich 2026, as the city’s much-loved 10k once again united the community in a celebration of running, fundraising and achievement. 

With 8,047 starters, the event recorded its largest field ever, while both the men’s and women’s course records were broken in an historic day for the race.

After a bright sunrise and a small threat of early rain, runners were greeted by warm sunshine, creating the perfect backdrop for another spectacular day in the heart of the city. 

The sold-out race, organised by Norwich City Community Sports Foundation and supported by strategic partner Norse Group, brought together thousands of runners ranging from experienced club athletes chasing personal bests to first-time participants taking on a personal challenge. 

Philippe Clement, Head Coach at Norwich City Football Club was the special guest race starter, fresh from Norwich City’s victory at Sheffield United the previous day. Arriving early to meet volunteers, staff and runners, the City head coach thanked many of the 600-plus volunteers who had been helping prepare the event since the early hours of the morning. 

Justin Galliford, Chief Executive Officer of Norse Group, was also on hand to help start the race. He joined Clement on the open-top race bus, enjoying a fantastic view as they cheered on participants in both the junior and main races.

Clement commented “It was amazing to see all of the happy faces from everyone involved. Adults, young kids, volunteers, staff and all of the other people– today I really felt the unity and togetherness in all of the community and the important work of the Community Sports Foundation. Congratulations go to everyone who was involved in such an amazing event and day.”

Our winners

Run Norwich’s fastest-ever men’s and women’s performances headlined an outstanding day of competition. 

Jonathan Escalante-Phillips (Cambridge & Coleridge AC) produced a record-breaking run to win the men’s race, lowering the course record he originally set in 2024. Former champion Logan Smith finished second, while reigning Run Norwich winner Marshall Smith (Ashford AC) completed the podium in third.

In the women’s race, Daisy Glover made a memorable Run Norwich debut, claiming victory and setting a new female course record. Reigning champion Holly Archer, winner in both 2024 and 2025 and the previous course record holder, finished second, while Ellie Grubb secured third place for the second consecutive year.

An estimated 20,000 spectators lined the route, creating a carnival atmosphere as runners passed some of Norwich’s most iconic landmarks, including Norwich Castle, Norwich Cathedral and Carrow Road, before finishing in front of City Hall. 

Celebrations continued at Chapelfield Gardens, where thousands gathered for the presentation ceremony to recognise the day’s leading performers.

Race Highlights

Beyond the elite competition, thousands of runners crossed the finish line with stories of determination, resilience and achievement. Many took part in memory of loved ones, while others ran to raise funds for charities close to their hearts.

The event’s inclusive spirit was reflected by the participation of two visually impaired runners and a wheelchair racer, all of whom successfully completed the course.

Aged 87, the oldest runner in this year’s event proved that age is no barrier, inspiring participants and spectators alike.

“Run Norwich remains the people’s race. Behind every race number is a personal story, and it’s those stories that make this event so special year after year.” Ian Thornton commented.

There was a record number of ‘Foundation Runners’ taking part this year, generating vital funds for Norwich City Community Sports Foundation and helping support disadvantaged and disabled children, young people and adults across Norfolk.

A race for everyone

Before the main event, hundreds of young runners took part in Junior Run Norwich, experiencing the excitement of race day as they tackled the city-centre route. The event provided an inspiring showcase of the next generation of runners while also supporting the Foundation’s charitable work.

The success of Run Norwich 2026 was made possible by more than 600 volunteers, who supported every aspect of the event, from registration and baggage facilities to marshalling and medal presentations.

Combined with the thousands of spectators lining the route, they helped create the unique atmosphere that continues to make Run Norwich one of the region’s most popular running events.

As always, once event costs have been met, proceeds from Run Norwich will support Norwich City Community Sports Foundation’s charitable programmes, helping thousands of people across Norfolk improve their physical and mental wellbeing, develop life skills and realise their potential.
