Run safe!
A virtual race should be fun – there are no age category prizes, and, for safety reasons, we do not recommend you try to match your usual ‘race day pace’.
A few tips:
- Stick to a route you are familiar with, avoid busy roads, and obey all highway codes. We ask you not to run the actual Run Norwich route; much of the route is on roads that will not be closed to traffic like they would on a normal race day.
- If running in the evening, or in poor light, ensure you wear high visibility clothing and stick to well-lit places.
- If you are running solo, make sure a friend or family member knows your planned route in advance.
- Stay well hydrated – before, during and after your run.
- …and of course, please adhere to the latest government guidance on social distancing.
Please note: taking part in the virtual race is done so entirely at your own risk. If you have any medical concerns, please consult a medical professional before taking part.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I submit a run I did last week?
No. To have your result approved it must be dated and submitted within the Virtual race window: 9.30am, Sunday 18th October to 11.59pm, Saturday 24th October.
Do I have to run the full 10km?
Yes. To have your time added to the race results, the run will need to be 10-kilometres.
Do I need to run the Virtual 10k to be eligible for my 2021 benefits?
No, not all all. Since you have already kindly donated your 2020 entry fee to the Foundation, you’ll receive all the benefits (48-hour priority entry window, £5 discount on Run Norwich 2021 entry fee, name on 2021 hero wall, and hero emblazoned 2021 running number) regardless of whether you choose to take part in the Virtual 10k.A note on medals
A small number of people have asked us why we decided not to provide a medal for completion of the Virtual 10K, and we wanted to explain our decision below.
Run Norwich is a key fundraising event for organisers Norwich City Community Sports Foundation, and the cancellation of the physical event this year put the vital programmes that Run Norwich helps to fund in jeopardy.
Through the generosity of everyone who did not claim a refund, we have been able to meet the race costs that were unrecoverable and still raise some money for the charity’s vital community work. For this we remain incredibly grateful.
Despite this wonderful response and support, Run Norwich’s contribution to the charity’s community work this year will be far less than usual and so we must limit our costs as much as possible.
The cost of producing and posting individual medals for all those that take part in the Virtual 10K would reduce that contribution further still and would threaten the survival of those important projects once again.
We are working on the contents of the digital goody bag and hope that this with the other incentives, such as priority entry and a £5 discount for next year’s race, show the level of our appreciation for your support during this challenging year.
