Run Norwich 2022 Recap

We’ve had Covid lockdowns and we’ve had heatwaves, but it was going to take more than a little rain to keep us at bay this time around.

It’s been over three years, but Run Norwich came back, and in spectacular fashion, as a record 6,214 participants conquered the sodden city streets.

Chapelfield Gardens once again played host to the Race Village, awash with anticipation upon opening at 8am, and before long the race pens swelled with adrenaline, dance moves, and excitement.

And then it finally happened; shortly after 9:30am, Jake Humphrey, the Community Sports Foundation’s chairman, began the countdown for the black pen and we were underway for the first time since 2019.

Just 31 minutes and 22 seconds later, 2019 winner Logan Smith retained his title as Norwich’s fastest 10km runner, followed just a few minutes later by Anya Culling, who notched a personal best time of 34:43.

But this was when the event really began!

A procession of fancy dress, first-time runners and fundraising superstars conquered Rose Lane, passed the cathedral, and rounded the castle on their way to completing the 10,000-meter course in torrential rain.

Whether you were setting new personal records, embracing the sheer emotion of completing the course, or sharing the moment with loved ones – the finish line welcomed tears of joy for many who crossed it.

Post-race antics saw a packed Chapelfield Gardens welcome runners for a free Woodforde’s Wherry beer, and a physio session from Recover Physio – contrasting rewards, yes, but a necessary selection, we feel.

A rare hiatus from the rain allowed for a presentation for the three fastest male and female finishers, as everybody else enjoyed their own celebration of personal achievements.

Top race results:

Male
1. Logan Smith 31:22
2. Reuben Andrews 31:38
3. Danny Adams 32:22

Female
1. Anya Culling 34:43
2. Mabel Beckett 36:28
3. Leanne Finch 36:35
