Wearing a race number other than your own can have potentially serious implications
As per our race rules, entrants could transfer their place to another person via our entry system up until Monday 3rd July.
Now that date has passed, we want to make it clear that it is a breach of the race rules to sell, swap, or transfer your race number to another person if you are unable to run.
Giving your race number to a friend or family member, or wearing a race number other than your own, can create potentially serious implications for our volunteers and medical staff on race day.
In the event of a runner falling ill that has not entered the race, we would have no medical or emergency contact details on record for that person.
Likewise, when the other runner is in a different category, gender or capability to the original entrant, ‘number-swapping’ can deny runners their rightful prize money, while also distorting entire race results.
Please help us avoid these scenarios by not passing your race number on.
As per UK Athletics rules, any runner who gives their number to a fellow competitor, or who is found wearing a race number other than their own, is liable to be banned from future Run Norwich and UK Athletics races.
