Runners can choose from three local causes

Two local charities will join organisers Norwich City Community Sports Foundation (CSF) as the three official race charities, at this summer’s Run Norwich 10k event.

The Nancy Oldfield Trust and Headway Norfolk & Waveney received invitations from CSF following the application process, and will each receive support to raise awareness of their vital work, as well as places in Run Norwich that are free for runners that wish to fundraise.

Almost £400,000 has been raised for official charities since the race began in 2015, and the two new charities will be hoping runners snap up their places at this year’s race, which will take place on Sunday 21st July.

The Nancy Oldfield Trust allows socially disadvantaged and disabled individuals to experience water-borne activities on the Broads. They are currently in the process of raising funds to build a brand new purpose designed cruiser to replace a 26-year-old boat that has reached the end of her service life.

Headway Norfolk & Waveney supports over 200 people in the region, affected by brain injury and stroke, through support sessions and carer programmes. They’ll use funds raised through Run Norwich to fund their occupational therapists, who do so much of the charity’s invaluable 1-to-1 and group work.

Organisers the Community Sports Foundation are currently undergoing their most ambitious project yet, to build a state-of-the-art community sports hub in north Norwich.  While we seek to make The Nest a reality, we need to sustain our vital work in our core programmes for disabled and disadvantaged individuals.

Details about when and how entrants can enter the race will be released shortly.

Last year, around 400 runners ran for the sole race charity, the Community Sports Foundation, as the race sold out with a record 7,000 entries.

Other charities that have benefitted from the race in the past include Age UK Norwich, Nelson’s Journey, SERV Norfolk, Norfolk Accident Rescue Service, Mind Norwich & Norfolk and The Big C.
