Nick's Story

In 2015, Nick Taylor signed up and completed his very first Run Norwich whilst also raising money for his chosen charity- Nelson’s Journey. Since then, Nick has competed in every Run Norwich, running as one of our amazing Foundation runners, and this year is no exception.

After competing in a few other races, Nick wanted to experience a ‘big event’ and to him there is no better way than running through the streets of Norwich, drinking in the atmosphere, whilst spectators hold out their hands for high fives.

After hearing about the event from a friend, Nick was encouraged to accept the challenge and fell in love with the experience. He said:

“For me, it’s a date I bookmark every year in my calendar – I really look forward to it!”

Back in 2015, Nick also kicked off his first fundraiser and raised money for Nelson’s Journey. The charities core values resonated with him deeply and after a friend had a period of bereavement, he wanted to show his support.

Nick has ran for the Community Sports Foundation since 2016’s event, as he felt he wanted to give back to the community he loves. In 2024 he raised an amazing £395 and  across the whole ten years has accumulated over £3000, an incredible amount.

When asked about his fundraising journey he explained:

“I get to help other people out whilst also doing something I thoroughly enjoy. I’ve always liked the feeling of giving back, and it’s exciting to me to see how my fundraising can help better and improve the Foundation.”

Although Run Norwich was cancelled in 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Nick was back in 2022 with the same love for the event as before, and although there is an ‘irritating hole’ in his Run Norwich medal collection, he said is ready and excited to compete again this year.

Not only has Nick taken part in every race, but his wife has also been with him every step of the way. With calculated meeting spots on the course, where he sees both her and his son – who loves attending to cheer on his dad – Nick told us that the support truly makes a difference when you are running a 10K.

After being asked if Nick would recommend the race to anyone, he quickly replied:

“Absolutely – I couldn’t recommend it enough. It’s for absolutely everyone, so don’t be intimidated, give it a go!”

Nick will take on Run Norwich 2025 on 7th September 2025 and as long as Run Norwich continues, he will always be there. He says:

“It’s one of my favourite days of the year.”
