Cheer stations are one of the most loved features of Run Norwich—by both runners and spectators. Being part of, or creating a cheer stations is your chance to show creativity, build atmosphere, and help bring the iconic Run Norwich buzz to the streets of our city.

The objective of a cheer station is simple. To generate as much energy and positivity as you can and deliver that power straight to the thousands of runners taking on the iconic 10k.

What makes a great cheer station?

We ask every cheer station to fully embrace the spirit of Run Norwich: celebrate our city, its vibrant communities, and the incredible people who come together to make this event special year after year. So, think bold. Think joyful. Think unforgettable.

What would you want to see or hear if you were powering up Rose Lane, chasing a PB, or digging deep in the final kilometre?

Drums, DJs, choirs, cowbells, horns, clapping, cheering – we want to hear you!

The louder and livelier your cheer station, the better the experience for our runners and spectators.

Please note: Any live music (bands, choirs, DJs etc) must be pre-approved by the Run Norwich team. Unapproved setups may be asked to stand down on the day if they disrupt the flow or safety of the event.

If you are planning to play recorded music through speakers, please let us know if advance. We’ll make sure your cheer station’s location doesn’t clash with others using amplified sound.

We love to see cheers stations full of colour, personality and energy. To ensure a smooth and safe race day, all branding must be pre-approved by the Run Norwich team.

Things to keep in mind: 

  • Set up timing: we ask for our cheer stations to be set up by 8:30am and that no equipment obstructs the race route
  • Safe placement: you may secure branding to railings, barriers, or lamp posts, but never block signage, access points, or safety areas

Important

Safety first: Any branding that poses a risk to runners, staff, or the public will be removed immediately.

Respectful messaging: Inappropriate, offensive, or politically sensitive branding is not permitted and will result in your cheer station being asked to stand down.

Weather warning: In the event of poor weather, you may be asked to remove branding fi it becomes a hazard.

Route clearance: No branding should corss or obstruct the race route at any time.

Unusual set-ups: Any large installations (e.g. stages, inflatable, props) must be pre-approved and included in your risk assessment. If not declared, they will be removed on race day.

As a cheer station, your support plays a vital role in helping us create a more sustainable and responsible race day.

Here’s how you can help:

Reduce single-use plastics

Avoid bringing single-use plastic where possible. Instead, opt for reusable or eco-friendly alternatives – every little swap makes a difference.

Minimise water and promote recycling

Please ensure your cheer station stays clean and tidy. Take all rubbish home with you and dispose of wast responsibly. Leave no trace behind.

Travel sustainably

City centre traffic can be heavy on race day. We encourage all cheer stations to use public transport, walk, cycle or car share where possible.

Reuse event materials

If you have banners, signs or decorations from previous events, give them a second life on race day. Reusing materials helps reduce unnecessary waste.

Make conscious choices

When planning your cheer station, ask yourself:

  • Is this item reusable or recyclable?
  • Can we reuse it at future events?
  • How will we dispose of it responsibly post-event?

By making these small but meaningful changes, you’re helping Run Norwich become a greener event and contributing to a cleaner, more sustainable Norwich.

Handing out items

If you plan to hand out anything (e.g. sweets, water, giveaways) to runners or spectators, this must be pre-approved by the Run Norwich team, prior to the event and clearly included in your risk assessment.

Promotional material

Promotional items may be distributed to spectators only, but must also be pre-approved by Run Norwich and adhere to appropriate, non-offensive and politically neutral guidelines.
