Whom do the charity help?

Whom do the charity help?

The Nancy Oldfield Trust exists to allow anyone who is socially disadvantaged or has a physical, intellectual or emotional disability to experience the magic of the Broads.

Through the charity’s Centre in the village of Neatishead, participants can experience a range of water-borne activities including sailing, canoeing, motor boating, fishing, bird-watching, and environmental studies.

Each year approximately 5000 visitors benefit from their services, some of whom enjoy new and exciting activities which stimulate social and emotional wellbeing.

For many of their residential guests it is also the first experience away from home, and the first attempt at self-reliance.

All Nancy Oldfield Trust runners will receive a branded Run Norwich 2019 race shirt / vest, and can benefit from the following additional fundraising rewards:

  • Raise £100 – Thank you pack
  • Raise £250 – Thank you pack and a summer evening BBQ and trip on Barton Broad for you and a guest.

Why your support matters

The Trust currently operates three Broads-style cabin-cruisers boats, with hydraulically-operated platform lifts to enable wheelchair users and visitors who are unstable on their feet to access the boats.

Our oldest cruiser is now 26 years old and nearing the end of her economic service life with the Trust. She has limited headroom and a cramped toilet cubicle and in addition the platform lift is too small for some of our visitors’ larger wheelchairs.

They are, therefore, in the process of starting to raise funds to build a new purpose designed cruiser, the cost of which is estimated to be in the region of £250,000.

The money they raise from Run Norwich will be used to support this new boat and by running for them, you will be directly making a difference.
